49ers Sign Seventh Overall Pick LB Aldon Smith To Four-Year Deal

  1. Linebacker Aldon Smith has agreed to a four-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. Smith, the seventh overall selection in April’s NFL Draft, is moving from his position of defense end at University of Missouri to being an outside linebacker for coach Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers. Terms of the contract have not yet been released to the public.

    Was kind of iffy on the pick at first but ireally like the guy. Ya it was early but thats the guy they wanted once peterson was gone and they picked him instead of risking losing him. If he becomes the pass rusher they envision they may not need to spend 62 billion dollars on a cornerback.

    with 4 year deals that a little more reasonable...its gonna be interesting in 3 years when some of these former top 10 picks are gonna be nearing free agency, usually these are 6 year deals. him snitching for a new deal will completely depend on his production

    Year 5 of the deal (the option year), they are going to get Top 5 money

    which will be interesting since we have no idea who is gonna actually warrant that kind of pay day 3 years from now, which is when they have to decide on the 5th year option

    I bet only about 30% get the option picked up, or they pick it up and teams renegotiate as soon as they can
