Joe Nedney, the most accurate kicker in 49ers history, is expected to announce his retirement from the NFL after 15 NFL seasons, the San Jose Mercury News reported. Nedney, 38, a native of San Jose who attended San Jose State, played for eight different teams in his career before finally finding stability with the 49ers. He was named co-winner of the Bill Walsh Award in 2005, along with linebacker Derek Smith, as the team MVP. But Nedney was plagued by injuries the past two years, finishing up on injured reserve both seasons. The 49ers on Thursday reached a three-year contract agreement with five-time Pro Bowl kicker David Akers to handle the 49ers' kicking duties.

Thanks Joe! He was never an overly powerful kicker but he was clutch and accurate.
