Free agent tight end Todd Heap has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Heap was released by the Baltimore Ravens last week, and Schefter notes that Heap reached agreement with the Cardinals while visiting with the New York Jets. The Mesa, Arizona native was a first-round pick out of Arizona State by the Ravens in 2001. Over the last ten seasons, Heap has 467 receptions for 5,492 yards and 41 touchdowns, earning Pro Bowl honors following the 2002 and 2003 seasons. Heap, 31, has 93 receptions for 1,192 yards and 11 touchdowns in 29 games over the last two seasons, but the Ravens opted to not bring him back at his $4.6 million base salary for 2011. Certainly an element of the Cards' game that has been lacking in years past. Very good pickup for the Cards.
Thank you Todd!!!!!! One of the greatest Ravens on and off the field, the first pass he catches when we play the Cards this year im still gonna yell out Heeeaaappp! But its twinkyson and Pitta's turn now, im excited that these guys are getting a shot
We're up against the cap and we drafted two talented young TE's in Ed twinkyson and Dennis Pitta. They told Todd to come back to them once he got a deal but the deal he got coupled with the opportunity was more then what the Ravens could offer. I expect us to go out and get a blocking TE to compliment the two young guys and now we have more explosiveness at that position. But i will say this, Heap is still a very good player, this was a steal for Arizona, for what he lost in speed he made up with improved blocking and he still has great hands and can go up and get the football as well.
