Eagles Want A First Round Pick In Return For CB Asante Samuel

Discussion in 'Philadelphia Eagles' started by BigBlueBruiser, Aug 8, 2011.

  1. Peter King of Sports Illustrated reports the Eagles are not planning to trade cornerback Astane Samuel. According to King, the Eagles likely won't seriously consider trading him unless they get an offer of a first-round pick in return for Samuel. After the team signed Nnamdi Asomugha in free agency and acquiring Dominique Rogers-Cromartie in the Kevin Kolb trade to the Cardinals, Samuel said he felt "50-50" about being wanted by the Eagles. Those acquisitions led to speculation that the Eagles might trade Samuel, who has a much higher salary than Rodgers-Cromartie. Trading Samuel could provide salary cap relief plus allow the Eagles to continue to stockpile draft picks.

I would disagree. 1st round pick for a 31 year old cb is a little steep. They wouldnt even take patrick willis for hmi! jp...

he may be 31 but hes a pick machine and could probably play for another 5-6 years....hes a cover guy, he doesnt take much of a beating

Yeah, still more than I'd want to give up though. Also, dude's never played for lower-tier team, I don't know enough about the guy to say whether he'd stay motivated..

Im with you on that!!! I love watching him at Lehigh, the guy antagonizes the offense and pushes the D to do better

Would be a foolish move trading away our biggest defensive playmaker if we really want to make a Super Bowl run. I don't see us trading a perennial All-Pro for a pick right now. If anything, an impact player maybe.

Eagles might just be testing the waters to see what kind of value he actually holds. Set the bar high, see who picks up the phone and is legitimately interested.

I love how he kills it in camp and kills it just the same during the regular season. I've said it before, this was one of the best FA signings of Reid's tenure.

And he brings heart and swagger.

    Can't move the Pres!

Similar to the Phillies Aces 4 is better than 3 and for the Eagles in CB 3 is def better than 2. This is an amazing luxury to have.... and his swagger is the best for the team but if in preseason a team loses their corner and makes an offer that is just too sweet to pass up i can see us pulling the trigger otherwise fetch that Lombardi trophy

If he was a few years younger I would say he is worth a first all day long. But... It is a win win for the Eagles.. If they keep him they are that much better. If someone actually trades a first it will most likely be a bad team, and they will end up with a fantastic low 1st rounder.. Win win..

They are putting a high draft pick simply because they do not want to trade him, he is by far a fan's favorite. And hey having too many great corners is a problem I'm sure you wish cowboys had, so I'm just a happy eaglefan

first of all, Samuel is 30, not 31. Second, you are probably the type of guy that would say that a first is worth it for Nnamdi, but not Samuel, not realizing that Samuel is only 6 months older than Nnamdi. Nnamdi has actually played in 5 more games than Asante and Asante has 31 more career int's, 70 more pass deflections and 30 more tackles than Asomugha.

theres a reason for his lack of tackle and picks though, everyone stays away from him

yeah and another reason is that you could run right through the raiders and if you were winning late (usually the case) there wasn't much of a need to throw, but I'm fine with that, don't throw at nnamdi, throw at the guy who's 5th on the active interception leader list.

yeah i cant wait for them to not be able to put it all together though. dont undersell nnamdis talents because you could run on the raiders, thats madness. hes the most dominant corner in the league, imo by a wide margin, damn near perfect at everything he does

damn, people snitch when Philly fans oversell and snitch when they undersell. I'm a fan, I know the talents. I'm happy with the acquisition.
