NFL, NFLPA Considering Fines, Suspensions For College Rule Breakers

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Aug 17, 2011.

  1. The National Football League, in conjunction with college football and the NFL Players Association, is considering a series of actions that would discipline players who are busted in college for violating NCAA rules, then skip to the pros unscathed. A variety of league sources tells Mike Freeman of CBS Sports the NFL would like to enact fines and possibly even suspensions for a player once he enters the NFL if that player was found to have broken rules while in college. While it seems unlikely to survive legal challenges, it's an indication the NFL sees the increasing college scandals as a threat to its image. The main concern some in the NFL have is that college players have no fear of punishment once they reach the NFL so they behave with impunity on the college level. One potential proposal is that if it's determined that a player, after he is drafted and subsequently makes an NFL roster, was shown to have violated NCAA rules, the player would be fined by the NFL and if the NCAA violation is particularly egregious, officials say, a player could be suspended by the league.

I appreciate the thought but you also postponed a supplemental draft so a college cheater could enter it so...heck you Rog!

  4. Pryor would certainly qualify under these proposed infractions........

While I understand where you're coming from and what you're saying, Roger Goodell doesn't give a crap about the cheaters. He wants to help boost the image since there is a handful of cheaters who are going to sit by and make crazy money while the U possibly get's the Death Penalty. He wants it to seem like he gives a crap but he doesn't. He postponed the fate of a handful of NCAA athletes who didn't break the rules in college so they can get in a man who DID cheat and will be mediocre at best. You want to take a stand against this? Let the Supplemental Draft happen Friday and tell Mr. Pryor to go suck a fat one.

How the hell can you suspended an NFL player for something they did in college AKA THE PAST? It makes no sense... This is something the NFL needs to let the NCAA handle, plain and simple.

Absolutely no way this happens. No way.

  8. We'll have to wait and see at the spring owners meetings in 2012.......

I'm actually very interested to see if this happens....not like I'm pulling for this to happen. Just interested.

Well, it happened! With this precedent there BETTER be a whole lot of suspensions coming out of Miami and USC! Way to go Roger! Dipcrap!

  10. I did say Pryor qualified.....but I honestly didn't think yesterday he would have a suspension as part of his eligibility for the summer draft.

There would have to be something in the CBA to allow such a thing to happen...no?

Like I said in the TP thread. The NFL is going to fine/suspend/punish kids who break NCAA rules then bounce to the NFL to avoid punishment. Yet, kids that are arrested, kids that actually commit crimes aren't gonna be punished entering the NFL?

    :dontknow:

Yeah, Mush. It's pretty dumb. Goodell makes no sense. Leave the NCAA to handle their business. IF you want to punish people, punish the criminals you have playing here, with no restrictions. I'm sure Cincy would be a good place to start.
