NFL Competition Committee May Review Changing New Kickoff Rule Next March

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Aug 22, 2011.

  1. Competition Committee chair Rich McKay told Peter King of Sports Illustrated from Los Angeles that he doesn't remember any new rule being rescinded before it had time to take effect for a season. This one won't either, even though there is rampant fan and media dissatisfaction with the new rule that has kickoffs at the 35-yard line instead of the 30-, to limit returns and, the league hopes, some of the devastating injuries on returns. So stop begging for the rule to die. It may next March. It won't now. "After the season,'' said McKay, "we'll see how it's affected the game and the injury numbers.''

How many "devastating" injuries on a kickoff return have there been?

Stupid idea, without a doubt. Kickoffs are exciting. Why not limit punts, too? Seriously. "Serious injuries" playing football? Like I said. Put flags on them. Goodell is a snitch.

A punt return is more dangerous than a kick return...lol.

Plenty of things are more dangerous than a kick off, lol. This is just ignorant.

Let's make football boring. Bleh. That's what they're starting to do.

I doubt it will get changed. The NFL doesn't give 2 craps about how the fans feel about the game. It's all about looking safe. Might as well merge with the Lingerie Football league and let them all play.
