49ers-Raiders To End Annual Preseason Rivalry

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Aug 22, 2011.

  1. The San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders will end their annual preseason matchup as a result of the violence at Saturday's game, the San Jose Mercury News reported Monday, citing a high-ranking NFL source. The source told the newspaper that both the NFL and local police are in favor of ending the preseason rivalry game. San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee said Monday he was horrified as he watched violent fan confrontations at a weekend NFL preseason football game between the archrival 49ers and the Oakland Raiders. Lee attended Saturday's game at Candlestick Park in San Francisco with Oakland Mayor Jean Quan, and both witnessed the brawling firsthand as spectators. "They were just constantly wailing at each other without regard to who was there," Lee said of the fans. "This is a family outing, for residents and visitors and people who want to see the game, not for people to look for people they don't like, then saying bad words, then getting into it." Lee said he was working with police and the 49ers to review footage of the fights and help identify people involved.

All this madness has to be gang related...right?

all the youtube videos have been locked to minors. 10:1 the cops confiscated them as evidence. Freaking idiots.

It's a regional thing. One team in the AFC and one in the NFC playing their ball 5 miles apart, most years the preseason is all they have. OAK/SF is a feud with or without football, this is just an excuse.

In some ways, isn't this just a continuation of the Bryan Stow incident?

I was wondering of that, Ragman. It's in this area that this mess continues to go down.

And Blaze, there's been a shooting related to SEC football here. It was a couple years ago, over the Alabama/LSU or Alabama/Arkansas game, I believe. People get stupid. Too stupid. A rivalry is FUN when there is no violence. This is just pure ignorance.

It appears no one got killed. This time. However, I fear that someone is going to get killed at some point, and Goodell and the NFL are going to have a lot to answer for.

No that happened in Los Angeles, not in the Bay. Completely different situation.

Ah, my bad. No clue the geography of the area. :D

But, nonetheless. Goodell is more worried about "kickoff injuries" and "illegal hits" .. rather than what safety really matters. Not saying safety of the players don't matter, but they are too worried about..stupid rule changes of that, rather than helping make this a safe, fun environment for fans.

Geographically speaking its like the difference between Charleston SC and Philly, give or take.:icon_cheesygrin:

And I dont think that people from either area would take kindly to being lumped together. Thats contentious.

What does the NFL or Roger Goodell have to do with gangs beating up or killing each other? NOTHING....
