In three preseason games Giants QB Eli Manning has not thrown a touchdown pass and in Monday night’s game against the Jets he threw his first two interceptions of the summer. His arm strength and accuracy does not seem to be where it needs to be, with many of his throws falling short or else sailing high of the intended receiver. Manning, of course, is locked into the starting job with no competition in sight but the lack of work in the off-season may have adversely affected him, as he is a quarterback who needs practice to stay sharp. Manning will probably not play much or at all in the preseason finale in New England, leaving the Giants hoping that he will be able to turn the page once the regular season starts. I haven't bought into the Eli Manning stock. He's a solid QB but I think he's generally overrated because of his last name.
I'm actually more concerned with our third down conversions or lack there of........ Got a short week to get those corrected Thursday night against New England.
Manning has been HORRENDOUS!! Last night was pretty bad. Another terrible performance last night. This guy is making mistakes that rookies make. He obviously can't read a defense right now. Eli's gotta get his act together itherwise he'll be sitting the bench. It's been a recurring theme this preseason with him.
Sitting on the bench? Granted he has been erratic but.that's a little extreme. I like David Carr as a backup but he took way too many hits as a starter with the Texans.
You think 2 weeks into the season if Eli continues that type of play Coughlin will put up with it? He doesn't put up with a lot of crap...I could see Coughlin sitting him to get a point across...Manning has to get his act together.
If thats the case.......Coughlin would've taken your advice last season when Eli turned the ball over 30 times by himself. It would only take an injury for Carr to get in the game.
Combine last season with what he's done this preseason and then it carries over to the regular season...I could totally see him getting benches. That Washington game isn't looking like a pushover game anymore.
No. But he couldn't be any worse than what Eli has been. I'm only saying it's possible if Eli continues this horrendous play 2-3-4 weeks into the season...
I'm not saying that they bench Eli permanently, but I would not be surprised if he is pulled or benched for a game for Carr as a way for Coughlin to make a point. He's not going to put up with that kind of play for long... I won't argue the point that if the Giants are going to go anywhere it is with Eli...but if his bad play continues, Coughlin might need to do something.
I agree that he hasn't looked all that good in the pre season but you can blame some of it on the lockout. he hasn't been with his teammates the usually amount of time he usually is with them in the off season. didn't have any ota's
