Coach Jim Harbaugh finally named Alex Smith the 49ers' starting quarterback after Thursday's preseason finale. Smith finished the preseason at 20-of-36 for 198 yards (5.5 YPA), zero touchdowns, and two interceptions, but he did lead two touchdown drives on his two series Thursday night. He didn't exactly "earn" the job, but rookie Colin Kaepernick clearly isn't ready to lead an NFL offense. History tells us Smith will go in the tank sooner or later. A leaky offensive line won't help. Source: RotoTimes
qb or no qb niners are ahead of the cards. i hate the fact that people are buying into kolb. i believe he will be just like all the other qbs andy reid traded away:icon_evil:
I'm not buying that it's a two team race at all...the niners have a great shot at winning the division...I think the Rams ultimately take it when all is said and done, but I don't think any teams running away with it.
That makes me feel all warm inside considering some of the hellish seasons we've had in recent memory. But despite that, the NFC West is easily the most open division in the NFL. All four could easily win the division and no one would batter an eyelid over it.
Seattles going to be lucky to win a game, let alone the division. Mess of an Oline, no qb, crap defense. I could see any of the other 3 teams taking it though, there's not a lot of separation between them right now and they all have a ton of questions.
No shocks about Smith there are there really?, hardly gone all out to do anything else this season. Most people seem behind either the Cards or the Rams for the NFC West for some reason. Yeh, they possibly are ahead of the other 2, but I don't think it's by as much as some reckon. If anything much at all.
