The Chicago Bears announced that they have agreed to terms with free agent safety Brandon Meriweather. Financial terms of the one-year deal were not disclosed. Selected by the New England Patriots with the 24th overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft, the 5-foot-11, 200-pound Meriweather has 261 tackles, two quarterback sacks and 12 interceptions during his 64-game career that has included back-to-back trips to the Pro Bowl. Despite the Pro Bowl accolades, Meriweather has not played at that level, particularly last season when he frequently found himself on the bench. New England attempted to trade Meriweather on Saturday, but were unsuccessful and terminated the final year of his contract. Source: Mac's Football Blog
Depth in the secondary. It really doesn't hurt, especially with only a 1 year deal. I don't believe he should be handed a starting job right away though. Hopefully Lovie makes him earn it.
So this guy is over-rated? Now it makes sense. The Bears love them some reclamation projects on defense for some reason. :icon_confused:
Still haven't heard yet. I would imagine the Bears didn't give him a ridiculus amount of cash though.
