Bears LB Lance Briggs Demanded Trade To Get Teams Attention

Discussion in 'Chicago Bears' started by BigBlueBruiser, Sep 5, 2011.

  1. Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs defended his decision to seek a trade if the organization continues to refuse to renegotiate his contract. Briggs has three years remaining on a six year, $36 million extension signed prior to the 2008 season. "The main ingredient here, based off my decision, is to get something," Briggs said on Monday. "To have management even be willing to talk. Whether it be, let's deal with it at the end of the year, let's deal with it after the season, then I have something to work with. But when the organization or management says we're not talking now, we're not talking ever, that puts me in a position where I know my days are numbered." The six-time Pro Bowl weakside linebacker is scheduled to earn a base salary of $3.65 million in 2011, a sharp decrease from what he made last year. In 2010, Briggs had a base salary of $3.145 million, but also a roster bonus of $3.3 million. He is scheduled to pocket a base salary of $3.75 million and $1.33 million likely to be earned bonuses in 2012, and a base of salary of $6.25 million in the final year of the deal. "If I play at X amount of money, then this year I'm asked to play for half of that, my play doesn't decrease," Briggs said. "So I have every right to go in and ask for a raise, or in this case at least to flip the years. There is nothing wrong with that. From the business side, there is nothing wrong with that. Football players don't retire when we are 65 years old. "What we are trying to do is creatively think of a way (to address the contract), any way, whether it be this year, next year, moving into the future. But there is no negotiating. I had to make a decision."

Well, most of us don't make millions of dollars either. You can't tell me making 3.3 whatever million dollars a year you couldn't live comfortable? You couldn't retire after 30 and live a comfortable life? How many of these guys become annalists? I'm sorry, anytime I hear these guys whine about money it just makes me sick when half of us are struggling in this economy,

This is what i've been saying on another message board the whole time but there are quite a few morons over there that just don't get what i'm saying and they are PACKERS FANS, go figure.,:icon_rolleyes: Oh well, they can kiss my butt anyway.

I was stunned when it took only 6 years and $36 million to keep Briggs back in 2008. Jerry Angelo DID NOT force Briggs to sign that contract. Briggs signed that contract on his own will. However though, with how Briggs was acting after the 2006 season when he was franchise tagged for the 2007 season, him snitching about his contract now doesn't come as a suprise to me.

Briggs has the right just as everyone else does to ask for a raise BUT your employer also has the right to turn down that request. I just wish Briggs would have waited until AFTER this season to ask for a raise. His timing on this couldn't have been any worse.

I hear you, I do but it's just like Com'on MANNNNNNNNN! I see half these guys snitch about money, money that you and I maybe most people on this board will never see in our lives. These guys get paid to be football players, Half these guys blow there money, and I understand that some of them trying to fix injuries and don't have the health insurance I understand that as well but still, 3.3 millions , 20 something million signing bonuses? How are these guys hurting for cash? How do any of them have the right to snitch about not getting paid enough? He needs to just shut his mouth, honor his contract and after his contract is up go somewhere else. If you are broke after all that money then obviously you don't know how to manage your money, or just settle for one or two cars instead of 10 or settling for a comfortable house instead of a giant butt mansion.

It's like, you signed a contract for this many years for this amount of money... honor it. Specially if you're denied a raise.

I see some instanced where guys deserve to get paid a lot more than what they are making. But when you pull this crap 2 time in 3 or 4 years, that's ridiculous. You don't get to throw a fit every time you want more money.
