That five-year, $90 million contract extension that quarterback Peyton Manning received from the Colts recently has built-in clauses that protect the team financially if Manning can't play. Peyton Manning's contract includes a $28 million non-guaranteed option and a separate $28 million non-exercise fee if the Colts elect not to pick up the previous option. According to NFL Network's Michael Lombardi, Manning would be eligible for termination pay of $1 million in 2012 and $500,000 in 2010 if his recent neck surgery precludes him from playing again. The contract reportedly includes a $28 million non-guaranteed option and a separate $28 million non-exercise fee if the Colts elect not to pick up the previous option. The contract leaves a window in which the Colts could release Manning and not pay either sum. That would mean he would earn $26.4 million this season.

It is stil a chunk of change, but maybe now people will get off Manning's back about "stealing" the money from the organization!

Colts are absolutely not doing that. Peyton built that stadium and put that team back on the map. I have no doubt he will play again, but i dont think it's going to be this year.

Peyton said he didn't want to be the highest paid player no? What imbecile would think he stole money from the organization.

The house that Peyton built. Has a nice ring to it I'd say.
