Browns President Mike Holmgren confirmed publicly today that the team is aggressively trying to extend the contract of running back Peyton Hillis according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The Browns are also working diligently to extend the contract of defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin, a league source said. "We're trying like crazy to wrap (Hillis)up for a long time,'' Holmgren said on the Mike and Mike Show on ESPN2. "He's something, isn't he?'' Hillis' new agent, Kennard McQuire declined today to comment on the talks. "Peyton is completely focused on the season right now,'' said McGuire.

If I was the Browns I would do a 4 year 25-30 mil. guaranteed. The guy is a work horse, but I wouldn't count on him being able to run like he does for more than 3-4 years.

I would wait until after this season. See if he can duplicate last year's production, then pay him if he delivers. I don't like paying guys based on 1 year of really good play.

Remember, he has always been solid. He just hasn't had the chance to be "the guy".(till last year) I highly doubt he has a year like last year but Hillis is a work horse. The dude can catch, can run and can block. On top of that, he puts fans in the seats. Holmgren needs to sign this guy asap.

Lol...that would be the smart thing to do.

They'll get Hillis wrapped up. I tend to agree that they should wait, but the dude has shown history of being a solid back and if they signed him to a Ahmad Bradshaw or Frank Gore type deal I wouldn't knock them for it...
