    He did that already.

So he is finding as many ways as possible to negate a rookie QB's 400 yard performance in his first NFL game.

    Gotcha.

    Pretty much.

I did say it was the horrible defense. And Newton made some good throws, but he also made some bad throws. On the long TD pass to Smith, I could have hit him he was that open. On the other, Smith made another nice catch. Again, Newton had a really good game, but it wasn't all him. Terrible/blown coverage lead to most of what he did. And also thank Smith.

The coaching staff deserves a lot of credit for Newton's success as well. They gave him a lot of passes that were outside the numbers that pretty much gave the Carolina receivers the only opportunity at making the catch.

But regardless of who is giving him the plays, or who is catching the ball, Newton's got to get the ball there and he was doing that Sunday. You can't discount what he did by any means, but at the same time, you can't say it was all him. But then you can't say that about any QB in the league...

    Colts disagree.:Loco:

What is getting me are all those people who are proclaiming him the best and saying he is a difference maker after only one game. Newton for the most part put the ball where it was supposed to be, and I'm not knocking him for that, but people can't look past the fact that the Cardinals have a terrible defense and Smith is still a playmaker(when he wants to be).

Props to the kid for putting up numbers. He did what he had to do when he could. (and Steve Smith played out of his mind) I just think some of the reports I hear on the radio and on ESPN or NFL network are getting too over blown. Saying he is "the man" and saying he has "it".. child please

Just think.. Vince freaking Young was offensive rookie of the year at one point. Lets see the kid do well for a few years and then say he is a bad butt.. my .02

This, I'm not ready to jump on the bandwagon but I'm not going to diminish the kid's debut.

My point exactly, all I was trying to say is that everyone is already slobbing the kid's knob and it was one game against a poor team that is worse then those in the SEC. He had a great game, but if Steve Smith didn't show up, Newton would only have 240 yards and no TD's.

That sounds like diminishing to me. That's just me though.
