Bill Polian is already looking for the next Peyton Manning. The Colts vice chairman told radio listeners Monday night that while the team expects Manning to return from neck surgery this season or next and to play at least several more years in Indianapolis, he is already contemplating who could be the heir to Manning. "Peyton's at the age now where he recognizes and we recognize that his career is in the homestretch," Polian said during his weekly radio show. "While we fully expect he'll be back and we fully expect he'll be with us next year, it is time that we give the quarterback position some serious consideration. We do that every year. The question is what pick do you use on a quarterback and how do you structure the contract and that sort of thing." Manning is expected to miss at least two months and possibly the entire season after having surgery Thursday to fuse two bones together in his neck. It's the third surgery he's had on his neck in the past 19 months, but the only injury that has kept the four-time league MVP from starting an NFL game. Source: ESPN.com
Even if the neck injury isn't career ending he is getting up there age. I don't know if I would have openly admitted that this early though.
35 years old countless pass attempts and being run into by gianormous men. Yeah might wanna start looking for his replacement. Not saying he's done, just any rookie getting to learn under Manning is priceless.
Yea it's fairly obvious that it's time to start looking. Might have even waited too long. Still not sure it's something I would have said publicly though.
Agree Steve. I think they should've taken the opportunity this season to possibly draft someone. They are going to have to replace Collins as well if he keeps taking a beating like he did Sunday. No way he holds up all season taking that abuse...
I don't think they'll be that bad. It would be great for them to get Luck and have him learn under the tutelage of Manning though if they were that bad.
Would be interesting to see Carolina get the first pick. The trade value of that first overall pick has gone way up since the new CBA.
