The NFL wants all fans patted down from the ankles up this season to improve fan safety according to Michael McCarthy of USA Today. Previously, security guards only patted down fans from the waist up before gaining entry to NFL stadiums. Under the new "enhanced" pat-down procedures, the NFL wants all 32 clubs to search fans from ankles to the knees as well as the waist up.The stricter security approach impacts the 16.6 million fans expected to attend live regular season NFL games this season. "The enhanced security procedures recommended by our office before the start of the season will further increase the safety of fans but will require some additional time," spokesman Brian McCarthysaid in a statement Thursday. "We encourage fans to come early, enjoy their tailgating tradition, and be patient as they enter the stadium." Source: The Red Zone
F you NFL. I'm not getting the TSA treatment to watch a game. Can you even imagine this with all the bulky winter jackets and such?
They are already dealing with the bulky winter jacket problem. This is needed after this past weekends taser incident.
They already do it at some venues but they do it half assed. It would take forever to pat down every single person "properly.".

Thats all they are doing though, making them FEEL safe. Theres no way you can expect them to effectively and "accurately" pat down 70 thousand people in a reasonable amount of time...its just lip service to make the sheep feel safe.
Pretty much right. They've been doing this sort of thing at soccer stadiums here for years. Fan segregation, pat downs, no beer at your seat, lids taken off soft drink bottles, etc. So they throw coins, use bunches of keys as weapons, etc. Even rip up the seats and throw as missiles. OK soccer violence here is nothing like as much as it was in the 80's and 90's. But them who want to fight and cause trouble will always find a way if they want.
