Aaron Rodgers threw for 308 yards and two scores, while the Green Bay Packers withstood another 400-yard passing day from Carolina rookie Cam Newton to beat the Panthers 30-23 on Sunday. A week after throwing for 422 yards, Newton topped himself by throwing for 432 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for a 4-yard touchdown with 37 seconds left to bring Carolina (0-2) within seven, but the Packers (2-0) recovered the onside kick to seal the victory. Rodgers found Greg Jennings for a 49-yard touchdown early in the third quarter to put the Packers ahead for good. Then, after Clay Matthews stopped Newton on a fourth-down run inside the 5, Rodgers found Jordy Nelson for an 84-yard touchdown to make it a two-possession game and help the Packers hang on. I knew he was gonna have a not as good game this week like he did last week. Because he was going up against the defending champs
He made some young mistakes but to throw for another 400 yards, against the Packers no less is more then impressive. Wonder how the "haters" are going to spin this? I think I'm sold on Cam now. Not enough to buy a jersey though.
Really? Everybody I heard talk about it gave him praise for the game against the Cardinals but said he wouldn't be able to do it against the Packers defense.
Forced a few throws, but it was going to happen eventually. Playcalling wasn't that diverse though, they really need to be mixing it up for him. You've got two good running backs, but Newton is throwing 40 times a game? Not good at this stage of things, especially with only one playmaker outwide. Feed your RBs the ball and don't make your looks so obvious, Charles Woodson took advantage of Cam's confidence. Cam will learn in due time.
Pretty stats. All I can say against him is he took 4 sacks and threw 3 terrible picks. Numbers are great but he is 0-2.
I'm ok with him as my backup to Brees for the time being, haha. I'll should be able to rope someone into giving me too much for him.
Newton is playing well for a rookie. Of course he'll make some rookie mistakes and you can knock on him for it, but at the same time, he's been impressive. He's shown good composure, can run, understands where to escape, 854 yards in 2 games...something like 33% of the Panthers passing yards last season. He makes it look easy throwing the ball 30-40 yards down field outside the numbers. This week he hit a bunch of crosses. The kid is learning and growing week by week. Didn't think he'd do nearly as well as he's done... Jimmy Klausen still deserve a shot? Lol...I think not. Btw - briefly he held the NFL record for the most passing yards in two weeks...until Tom Terrific came along in the 4:00 game.
