Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that 49ers tight end Vernon Davis met with head coach Jim Harbaugh this week to clear the air about his role on the team. Davis caught only tywo passes Sunday for 18 yards and vented to his coach about being used primarily as a blocker and a decoy in last Sunday's overtime loss to the Cowboys. "I had on my mind some things I felt we could've done better," Davis said Wednesday. "And I pointed them out to him, as far as getting everybody involved -- I mean, everybody, all the playmakers that we have." As Davis is probably the most talented playmaker on the team, using him as a blocker makes no sense. Davis is likely to be more involved in the passing game this week as wide receiver Braylon Edwards had knee surgery and will be out at least three weeks. Source: The Redzone
Glad he didn't just come out and bombard the coach in the media, even though he would of been absolutely justified in doing so. What was Harbaugh thinking? You don't see Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, Jason Witten or Dallas Clark being used as decoys and blockers. Their teams know that the ball needs to be in their hands. Get with the program douche.
Ya i thought the niners were past using Davis as a blocker....just move the guy to tackle. Last time they moved Davis from blocking TE to receiving TE he tied the record for touchdowns in a season by a TE.
I think they will use him more as the blocking gets better and Smith learns to get rid of the ball quicker.
