Bears QB Jay Cutler Unsure He'll Survive Season At Current Rate Of Abuse

  1. Still raspy-voiced from a kick to the throat and beatdown by the New Orleans Saints defense, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler rapped twice on a lectern when pondering whether he could make it through the rest of this season with this type of punishment. "I don't know," Cutler said. "I don't know." Cutler absorbed six sacks, in addition to 16 hits against the Saints in the club's 30-13 loss on Sunday, resulting in extreme soreness in the quarterback's throat, "hips, we can go down the list," he said, jokingly. But in all seriousness, the crushing blows to Cutler could continue Sunday when the Bears face the Green Bay Packers, given the blueprint provided to other teams by the team's shaky offensive line, not to mention the fact that sacks in many ways are merely the cost for doing business in the scheme of offensive coordinator Mike Martz. "We want to protect him more," Bears coach Lovie Smith said. "He took too many hits the other day. He acknowledged that, and we're working on protecting him more." Tight end Matt Spaeth said: "He shouldn't have to [continue to take that type of abuse]. There's a lot of stuff we have to fix -- nothing glaring -- just little mistakes here and there." Martz's history indicates it's actually more than that. From 1999 to 2010 (Martz didn't coach in 2009), Martz's offense ranked in the NFL's top 10 in sacks allowed in nine of the coach's 11 seasons, and in the top three in each of his last four.

Of course not...need anyone be reminded of the playoffs? If you need clarification, just contact Maurice Jones-Drew.

The concussion against the Giants last year was bad enough. IF he keeps getting hit and sacked at the rate he is now behind this current Bears O-Line, he will suffer a season ending injury eventually. Sadly, Cutler is on pace to be sacked 88 times this season.

I could be wrong but 16 hits and 6 sacks seem pretty glaring to me.

  8. I wish they would get rid of JA it was obvious that the weakest link on the team was the O-line but he continues to sign DT,DE busts and then this heck up giets rid of our best OL and now instead of all the pessure coming from the outside is now coming from the middle too I scratched my head about the Bears going 8-8 but if it continues like this it "WILL" be worse than a 8-8 season.

  9. Hopefully what Cutler said about taking a beating lights a fire under the asses of this horrible O-line.

In hindsight, the fact that Cutler even survived to start that NFC title game could be considered a minor miracle.

I'm not even sure that I would place all the blame on the OL at this point. I mean if you really get into the statistics of what happens in a Mike Martz offense, even in St Louis he was getting Warner hit quite a bit. In Detroit, Kitna put up big numbers but also got destroyed. Pretty much the calling card of a Mike Martz offense is that yeah, you will put up some stats in the end but you will also get your QB hit a bazillion times. Dude doesn't allow audibles. I mean, I don't even get that. 7 step drops + no audibles = getting your QB killed. But on the other hand, Martz has some games where he seems to call a great game and offset the pass rush. So, it is hard to judge on a consistent basis. But god **mn, if Jay can see what is coming then I don't see why an audible can't be made. :icon_frown:

NOT the best thing to say when you're already called a wussbag. They should trade for Tim Tebow. He can evade the pressure....*half joking*

  13. I agree with you bro to a certain point but when our QB has been sacked 11 times in 2 games I think it might be a mixture of a bad O-line,play calling(especially when your ranked 27th in the NFL in rushing with a guy like Forte who is so talented)

JA also does this crap during the draft as well. Ignores the O-Line for the most part and pays attention to the D-Line. Ok, I appulad him for the Gabe Carimi pick because I think Carimi will be a good one for the Bears. However though, JA keeps denying the obvious and that is the fact that the O-Line needs a massive upgrade STILL.
