Red Sox, Manager Terry Francona Expected To Part Ways

Terry Francona will meet with Red Sox management on Friday morning, and the expected resolution is that he no longer will be the team’s manager, major league sources say. While Francona’s departure is not certain, it is the likely outcome, in part because he is pressing for a resolution, sources say. He would not be fired; the Red Sox would simply decline their club options on him for 2012 and ’13. At that point, Francona would be free to pursue long-term contracts with other clubs. The White Sox’s position currently is open, and Francona managed five seasons in their minor-league system in the early 1990s.

As a Rays fan I say "hell yeah". As a baseball fan I say "the Sox are idiots if they do this".

If he wants to coach this year there will be doors open EVERYWHERE for this man. He is a hell of a coach. I'd love to see him in the Mets dugout next season!

  5. The Cubs were also mentioned as a possibility........whom he played for in 1986.

Being a yankee fan I still think this guy is awsome. With the way the red sox collapsed this season you got all fingures pointing at him

Besides this season, this dude took this franchise and turned them into a championship team. When your team is as banged up as the Sox were throughout the season and when the man you sign to a GIANT contract disappears, it's going to be hard to keep it going. He put the guys that he had in the situations to win and they underachieved, plain and simple. Lackey is the worst pitcher in baseball at this point, Crawford put up awful numbers, Beckett and Youk were hurt. With all of those guys playing to their potential this team is a Championship team. Sure they hecked it up down the line but in no way is he not a great manager. And to be fair, I still think the Yankees collapse in the playoffs far outweigh this, the Mets or the Braves. Just sayin.

I think Grady Little did that. And if he had made a pitching change, he probably would have been the one getting hailed for his brilliance.
