Ex-NFL Coaches Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden Open To Dolphins Coaching Job In 2012?

Discussion in 'Miami Dolphins' started by BigBlueBruiser, Oct 25, 2011.

  1. As the winless Dolphins prepare to start another coaching search – with their eyes apparently on former Super Bowl-winning coaches Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden – Miami fans should be aware that the feeling is mutual. Both Cowher and Gruden have quietly planted seeds that they would like to return to coaching and are more than open to listening to an offer from Miami owner Stephen Ross. According to two sources in and around the team, former Dolphins quarterback and current CBS studio analyst Dan Marino has been telling Dolphins management that Cowher, an analyst partner, is geared up for a return. Cowher is also close with Ross confidant Carl Peterson. As for Gruden, he was in Miami for a Monday night game in the opening week and told more than a few folks that he’ll be ready to go next offseason.

Didn't Gruden just sign a 5 year deal with a network?

I could def. see Cower in Miami. Good climate top pick in the draft. Win win. lol

  4. It would like the same situation with Bill Parcells when he left ESPN to coach the Cowboys and then in a front office role with the Dolphins.

Gruden would still be under contract with ESPN and would return to the network when he's no longer the Dolphins head coach.

And the crap slinging begins. You have enough "sources close to the situation" and you throw enough names against the wall eventually you are going to look like a genius in February when one of the 60+ names is actually hired.

Gruden has an out in his deal that would allow him to go back to coaching and would end his deal with ESPN from what was stated on NFL Radio.

A lot of these coaches that go into the media realize that the money is good, a lot less hours and don't really want to return to coaching unless the situation is perfect for them. That's why I laugh when a name like Gruden or Cowher get tagged to the Dolphins...why would either one of them want to leave a cushy job to deal with Stephen Ross? Lol...

Btw- "confident Carl Peterson" should be a red flag in any smart coaches book...

The only way that Cowher or Gruden take this job is for:

    A. Mad coin.
    B. Guaranteed the #1 pick in the draft.
    C. Full autonomy.
    D. Stephen Ross locks himself in a closet.

If those four criteria are met, the Dolphins will have coaches lining up all over the joint...lol.
