Departing Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein took out a full-page ad in Sunday's Boston Globe to offer "infinite thanks" for the 10 years he spent with the organization, the last nine as GM.Under the heading, "10 Years, Two Championships, Countless Memories, Inifinite Thanks," the ad takes the form of a letter from Epstein. He writes: "It's been a privilege to be part of the Red Sox for the last decade and an honor to work alongside some of the most talented and dedicated people in baseball."He cites the Red Sox ownership group as having a "commitment to excellence at all levels" and says he is grateful for their "unwavering dedication to winning." Epstein also thanks assistant GM Ben Cherington, as well as the players, coaches and former manager Terry Francona for their "tireless effort."

This man oozes clbutt. I'm sorry that the Sox basically tried to crap on him and Tito's legacy there by being a bunch of douchebags. I really hope he can turn that Cubs organization into something money even though I'm a Mets fan.

I'm excited to see what Theo can do in Chicago. All the Cubs have ever needed to turn it around long-term is having an owner truly dedicated to winning and putting in place a front office that knows what it is doing. I had my fears about Ricketts at first but the way he has re-done the front office since the season ended, I now feel like I can trust that Tom is truly serious about making the Cubs a contending franchise for years to come. It probably won't happen right away (2012 will likely suck) but I'm very excited to see the direction the Cubs take in these next 3-5 years.
