Phil Simms Says "No Way" Peyton Manning Will Let Colts Draft Andrew Luck

  1. Phil Simms, on Showtime's Inside the NFL airing Wednesday (9 p.m. ET), says Peyton Manning will decide if the Indianapolis Colts want Stanford's Andrew Luck, that players now "cry about everything" and that other quarterbacks "would have been destroyed" for the type of performance the Denver Broncos' Tim Tebow had Sunday. On Luck, Simms says, forget what Colts owner Jim Irsay thinks. Simms says, "There is no way if Peyton Manning is given a clean bill of health -- I'm going to go on that assumption -- that he is going to let them draft Andrew Luck." Partly, Simms suggests, that's because Manning might then find it hard to keep his job: "In this day and age, even with Peyton Manning, people would be crying, 'We've got to see Andrew Luck.' " Cris Collinsworth, on the show, disagreed: "I would draft Luck. I just don't think you could take a chance on missing the next franchise quarterback." And Simms suggests NFL on-field free speech is gone: "You can't say anything on the field anymore. (Players) go running to the press. They tweet it and they cry about everything. ... (When Simms played), you would turn around and yell at the fans. I yelled at fans everywhere. If you do that now you'd get fined by the league, probably suspended, and of course the fan would sue you." When it comes to Tebow's start for the Broncos on Sunday, Simms suggests the former Florida star got cut a lot of slack: "If Joe Flacco, Mark Sanchez, any of those guys played a game like that, how would it have been taken? You know, even in their rookie years, they would have been destroyed for it."

Is going to quit or demand a trade if they draft him? He can't have that much power over the front office.

I highly doubt Manning is that type of guy. He never pushed me as a "me me me me me" first type of guy.

Maybe Phil Simms is talking about what he would do if he were this situation

    Didn't Simms do that?

Peyton is a player. He doesn't make personnel decisions. And I don't think he would play the team like that.

If the COlts passed up Luck because Manning said not to draft him, they deserve everything they get after Manning leaves...lol. Would be the biggest bone-head move in the history of the NFL Draft. At worst, they draft him and then offer him up for trade and even that is a bone-head move...lol.

Manning understands he's at the end of his career. He should embrace the opportunity to mentor an up and coming QB like Luck. And I truly think that's the approach he would have. He knows his career is over in Indy until he's ready to step away.

Essentially why Jeff Hostettler was a Raider. And Phil Simms is the biggest freaking moron in the history of the NFL. However, I wouldn't be shocked if Peyton ever tried anything like this. I never did like Peyton and he always seemed big headed(ha! See what I did THERE!) But honestly, this dude has 2, MAYBE 3 years left in him and this team needs to move on. An Andrew Luck doesn't come along all too often.

Manning takes a shot at Simms...lol...

“I don’t talk to Phil,” Manning said, via Phillip B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star. “Phil doesn’t talk to me. He did text me after that, saying ‘Hey, sorry to drag your name into this.’ I wrote back, ‘Phil I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ He said, ‘Well on my show, Inside the NFL, I made this statement.’ I said, ‘Phil, I hate to break it to you, but I don’t watch your show, along with a lot of other people that I don’t think watch that show.’ Giving himself a little more credit than probably was merited.”
