Matt Barkley, Landry Jones Good Enough For Teams Not Trade Up For Andrew Luck?

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Nov 1, 2011.

  1. In talking to two scouts this week, both agreed that Stanford’s Andrew Luck is the leader in the clubhouse for the No. 1 overall pick. No shock there. The interesting part is that both also believe Landry Jones of Oklahoma and Matt Barkley of USC are good enough (or could become good enough) that teams won’t feel so desperate to trade up for Luck. “Everybody is trying to get a quarterback, but you don’t want to do it at the expense of being able to build the rest of the team,†one of the scouts said. “Sometimes you have to make the deal, like what the [New York] Giants did with Eli [Manning]. I’m not sure that’s the situation here.â€

  2. Peter King said on PTI that Barkley is almost certainly a Top-10 pick.

I think teams picking outside of the Top 5 that need a QB will stand pat and take Barkley. But Luck is clearly head and shoulders above the rest.

i like barkley, but i like jones even less than i liked bradford...and i hate(d) bradford

that being said "good enough" is settling really hard here....id imagine that whoever gets the #1 pick at this point is going to want luck, but the outside chance its someone who wants to sell it id imagine teams are gonna throw an awful lot at them for him, look at what atlanta gave up for julio and multiply it by 3 and throw in a pro bowl player somewhere

  4. Barkely is legit.

Jones is not legit too me. I'm not sure where I am going to rank him yet but needless to say there is a huge different between Luck....../ Barkely/ and then everyone else.

Yea it just depends on how desperate the team is or how far back they are. Each situation is different. If you need a QB I would definitely try to make an offer for Luck. But if you lose out then Barkley isn't a bad backup plan if you can move up for him or are already in a position to take him. Those are the only 2 guys I would really really want though. Jones would be a last resort.

  6. I'm not even convinced if Jones is the 3rd best option.

I like Foles a good bit and I've heard good things about Griffin from Baylor. Also, Tannehill from A&M is supposed to be really good.

  7. YEAH DUDE!

YEAH DUDE! CHAMPION OF THE UNIVERSE!

I love Griffin from Baylor, that kid is a gamer. A lot of talented QB's this year. I still say though you still have to think if Luck stays in school another year. Who knows all these teams maybe fighting for Barkley if Luck stays in school another year.

eh, i'm sure these scouts are toeing the company line ......... luck is right now clearly the best nfl prospect at qb .......... obviously someone shouldn't give the farm away but if the difference between Luck and everyone else is the difference between peyton manning and, say, carson palmer and alex smith, then i would imagine a lot of teams WILL give quite a bit to get him.

  9. Luck is definitely coming out fwiw. He has the option to stay but he has already said there is no way he goes back.

If a team with a Top 10 pick needs a QB I think it would be best to just wait on Barkely. The team might have all the pieces in place other then QB so to trade up for Luck would be stupid.
