Chargers Owner Dean Spanos Says QB Philip Rivers Is "Having An Off Year"

Discussion in 'San Diego Chargers' started by BigBlueBruiser, Nov 7, 2011.

  1. Despite all the doom and gloom in San Diego these days, it's important to note that if the season ended today, the Chargers would be AFC West champions. That means the Bolts -- and beleaguered quarterback Philip Rivers -- still have plenty of time to seize control of a weak division and position themselves for a postseason run. That probably doesn't make owner Dean Spanos feel any better about a team he thought would be better than 4-4 at the halfway point. When asked about the struggles of Rivers following a three-interception effort against the Packers, Spanos raised some eyebrows with his response. “Sometimes you just have an off year,â€￾ Spanos told NBC's Alex Flanagan (via ProFootballTalk.com). “That is what Phillip Rivers is having so far.â€￾ This was perceived by some -- including NBC analysts Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison -- to represent the opposite of a vote of confidence in the franchise quarterback.

If you ask me, both Norv Turner and A.J. Smith need to go. A.J. Smith can replace Jon Gruden in the booth at ESPN when Jon returns to coaching.

well, obviously rivers is not performing as well as in previous years but how does someone just all of the sudden forget how to read defenses and make the right throws? a lot of his INT's this year have been just simple laziness/stupidity....... it's definitely mental at this point, either he's not happy with the coach/system or he's just not 'into' the game as much as previous years.

Holy crap this is BREAKING NEWS!! Phillip Rivers isn't playing like the Rivers of old.........really? No crap. They can't handle this like Brees though because they don't have successor of Rivers caliber waiting in the wings. I wouldn't be shocked to see a new HC walking the sidelines next year though.

  8. they've needed a new HC for years.
