I would start with decision making. That's what sets guys like Peyton, Brady, and Rodgers apart from guys like Romo and Rivers. They all have the physical ability, but the elite guys know what to do with the ball and the team in every situation.

Would you classify Dan Marino as an elite NFL QB? He threw for a ton of yards in his career, but he never won a SB.

Yea he was an elite quarterback. I don't think Super Bowls are a deciding factor in how good a player is. It's matters, but it's not deciding.

what makes a quarterback elite? That is really subjective. No right or wrong answer except for Alex Smith. I think an elite team makes an elite quarterback. You need all cylinders hitting. Put Rodgers or Brady on a sorry team and they wouldn't be elite. To me an elite qb has field vision, great anticipation, and great pocket awareness. Being able to make all the throws is nice but not necessary to be elite.

Could not disagree more. Trent Dilfer was on an elite team with the Ravens when they won the Super Bowl, he was far from elite. Grossman was on the Bears when they went to the Super Bowl, he's far from elite. We see how sorry the Colts are without Peyton Manning, and he is possibly the best of all time. Brady is setting records with a bunch of recievers no one else wanted, basically all of which are under 6 feet tall, and on top of that he has no defense to back him up.

no....you put todays aaron rodgers on any team and that team is competitive.

aaron rodgers wasnt always elite though, and he wont be forever....i wouldnt consider brady elite but for most of the 2000s he was. Aaron rodgers sitting behind farve had poor preseasons, he looked awful in very limited spot duty for favre, he was often injured after those few snaps.

when ben got to the steelers they were a playoff team with or without him....right now they are not even close to a playoff team without him but very much in the running with him....and i wouldnt even call him elite, id say hes upper tier and has some elite qualities to him though.

the vikings werent too competitive until they got favre a few years back, then they were an NFC champion caliber team, the saints were beyond irrelevant until drew brees cames....the list goes on and on.

That's what I'm saying. You put Rodgers on the Colts and that's a playoff team.
