At first, the Kansas City Chiefs had held out some hope that Matt Cassel might be able to return from his hand injury. But now, they have decided to officially shut the quarterback down for the remainder of the season, placing him on injured reserve, according to ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss. The Chiefs officially promoted receiver Jeremy Horne from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, and it means that Kansas City will finish out the rest of the season with Tyler Palko at quarterback. Palko makes his first start tonight against New England. Cassel suffered the injury last week against Denver and had surgery on the hand shortly thereafter.

And with that, the Cassel era is over in KC?

Cassel is not a high quality QB.

that's what's being discussed around k.c. cassel is done. haley is done. pioli may be done. next season's chiefs should look a lot different according to the 'rumors' floating around kc.

I don't think many people care that Cassel is gone. The Chiefs needed a better QB anyways Cassel was nothing outside of New England.

He was good with McDaniels. Obviously a system guy...go back up Bradford.

Either that or go to New England. Going to either one of those teams would be best for him because if he has to play not much is expected, not like playing up to the huge contract he got to begin his stay with the Chiefs.

He's not going back to New England. We already have Brian Hoyer who the coaches are very very high on. He's probably going to be the guy when Tom leaves. Ryan Mallett is there too, although he'll probably never see the field as a Pat.

Agree Steve. I think his best bet is St. Louis...for a chance to be successful. If he's just gonna hold a clipboard, I'd take him in Pittsburgh over Batch and Dixon...or he could go to 30 other teams...lol.

If he wants to play he can't go to St.Louis either. They aren't going to dump Bradford for him, right?
