The Denver Broncos announced the release of quarterback Kyle Orton on Tuesday, and sources familiar with the situation said the Chicago Bears plan to put in a waiver claim to facilitate a potential reunion, adding the team is also interested in former Arizona Cardinal's third-round pick Josh McCown. The Denver Post reported that Orton, 29, and his agent David Dunn helped to facilitate the quarterback's release by requesting it after they learned of Jay Cutler's thumb injury. Fox Sports' Jay Glazer first reported the news of Chicago's intention to make a play for Orton. The Bears could be looking to bring back Orton, despite his lack of familiarity with the system of offensive coordinator Mike Martz and the approximate $2.5 million remaining of the quarterback's nearly $8.9 million salary for 2011. McCown expressed a desire to join the Bears in May 2010 when the club was searching for a veteran backup quarterback. Source: ESPN Chicago
I don't mind seeing Orton come back as long as Hanie gets a legitimate chance to start. None of these other scrub QB's they are talking about bringing in do anything for me. I just think it would be funny for the Bears to have both Orton & Cutler back again, it would be kind of a fitting end to the epic fail that was Denver's trade of Jay Cutler. :icon_cool:
Better yet why would the Bears want him back? Him and Rex never really impressed me. As URL54MVP said let Hanie have his shot. He really impressed last year with his spunk. Besides even if he stinks he wont stink anymore then Orton would have.
If Hanie totally bombs or gets hurt, the Bears can't just leave the QB job to that rookie they drafted this past April (Enderle). They have to at least have some kind of backup QB. Orton isn't flashy but he is serviceable if you put a good enough team around him which is where Denver failed Kyle terribly imo. There are no other great options out there besides Orton so...why not? Plus never underestimate the power of the neck beard!
