Chiefs Claim QB Kyle Orton Off Waivers From The Broncos

Discussion in 'Denver Broncos' started by BigBlueBruiser, Nov 23, 2011.

  1. The Kansas City Chiefs claimed former Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton on waivers Wednesday, according to an NFL source. This means they now will take over his contractual rights for the remainder of this season and the Broncos are free of the $2.5 million they would have owed Orton. The Bears also put in a waiver claim for him. Matt Cassel hurt his throwing hand in the Chiefs' 17-10 loss to Denver on Nov. 13 and had season-ending surgery the next day. Kansas City plays the Broncos in Denver in both teams' regular-season finale, a game that could be very meaningful in the AFC West title picture.

Definitely an upgrade for the Chiefs...they're only 2 games out of first and their D is playing well.

Not like they can't afford it cap wise. I think they have like $27M available...

Would be awesome to see the division on the line with the Chiefs Broncos being the last game of the season...

  6. Dallas also made a claim..........

    Disagree completely.

This team isn't any good and Orton isn't any better than Cassel. I still don't think we're winning a game the rest of the year, and all this does is deny Stanzi any chance of proving he might be a future starting QB. It makes me sick.

You really think this is that big of a deal? Caleb Hanie is going to start the remainder of the season barring injury and I don't think Orton coming here would have changed that. I mean yeah I'd rather have Orton as the backup instead of McCown but at the end of the day, if it comes down to the Bears needing to play a 3rd string QB late in the season they are hecked anyways.

He's an upgrade over Palko and their not out of it in the weak AFC West. No reason they have to keep Orton past this season.

Has nothing to do with Cassel. It's an upgrade over Palko. If Stanzi is such a hot commodity then why didn't he start over Palko when Cassel went on IR? What the Chiefs have going for them NOW is the weak division in which they play and a chance, albeit thin, to make the playoffs. Myself, I hope Orton does well and gives the Chiefs a reason to dump Cassel. With $25 million to play with and Cassel getting a ton up front, the cap hit would be very manageable.
But for 11/24/2011 the Orton signing is a good move for the balance of the season.
