The Cowboys were one of three teams - the Chiefs and Chicago were the others - to put in a waiver claim on the quarterback who was released by Denver earlier this week. Kansas City was awarded Orton because they had won two fewer games than the Cowboys, who were next on the list. The club's interest in Orton raises serious doubts about Jon Kitna's health as he'll miss his second consecutive game Thursday with a bad back. Kitna has been bothered by soreness in his lower back in recent years but has worked through these issues with rest but Kitna is 39 years old and in the final year of his contract. Put it all together, and the Cowboys were willing to absorb more than $2.5 million for the remainder of the season to claim Orton. Source: Dallas Morning News
Probobly has more to do with getting a comp pick next year Not sure if they give out #2's anymore, but if Orton were to start somewhere, we would probobly get a max comp pick
Either that or trying to make sure Chicago didn't land him, being we need the playoff spot that they currently occupy, if we fall back in the division again.
