Though the Miami Dolphins fell to 4-9 on the season with Sunday's 26-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland will remain in his current position beyond this season, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports. "The Dolphins plan to let Ireland continue in his job with the team beyond this season," writes Salguero, who is as well-connected to the Dolphins as it gets in the Miami media."I know this as fact. Period." Since hiring Ireland and head coach Tony Sparano, the Dolphins are 29-32 in the regular season and are 0-1 in one post-season appearance, a 27-9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the 2008 Wild Card Playoffs. Both men received contract extensions last January, but Salguero adds that the team winning four of five games heading into Sunday's game was not enough for Sparano to save his job. That Ireland will remain in his position beyond 2011 means he will likely remain in the position beyond 2012, as he figures to have a voice when it comes to selecting Sparano's replacement. Well, maybe Todd Bowles will get the job full time. Looks like all of the interim head coaches are African American, so they may fulfill the Rooney Rule if interviewed.
