Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison could face substantial suspensions -- including playoff games -- if they repeat the transgressions that led to their recent suspensions, according to a league source. Harrison was suspended Tuesday for Pittsburgh's game against the 49ers on Monday for a helmet-to-head hit on Browns quarterback Colt McCoy. Suh returns this week from a two-game suspension -- which he appealed and subsequently lost -- for pushing on the head and stomping on the arm of Packers offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith. The source indicated that there might not be much latitude for Suh and Harrison in the future since they've been warned and fined for previous infractions but still have pushed things to the point of suspensions. Harrison was fined six times from 2009 to '10. "Three games, four games, five games, six games? It could happen depending on the circumstance," the source said. "They are repeat offenders, which mean suspensions are more likely." Source: NFL.com
Good. Both of these guys need a real wake up call. Fines clearly don't phase them. And judging from his tweets, suspensions don't phase Harrison either.
I agree with this. With all the studies being done on the long term effects of concussions the NFL has to put themselves in a defensible position for the inevitable lawsuits. I say give them the old leather helmets again with no face masks and see just how willing these player are to lead with their heads again. That will actually reduce the number of injuries.
part of the problem, is these players have been taught and rewarded for this ultra aggressive play forever. Must teach young players the correct form to tackle....
Yeah I get the politics of this but I'm getting sick of the National Pansy League. Flag football will be the new NFL in a matter of years.
Well crap, lets just get the flags out already and call this what it already is. The flag freaking football league.
