Sam Hurd has a bond hearing scheduled for this afternoon when the Chicago Bears wide receiver will attempt to be released from jail as he faces federal charges of conspiring to run a massive narcotics distribution network. His teammates will try to move past the alarming distraction in preparation for a must-win game Sunday vs. the Seattle Seahawks at Soldier Field. Bears coach Lovie Smith said after practice Thursday that getting onto the field and going through a regular day was the quickest and best way to move on from the shocking developments. But that’s not going to stop players from seeking more information on Hurd’s case and media from scrutinizing the case from every angle. Federal authorities allege Hurd was attempting to set up a network in which he could purchase 10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds ( a half-ton) of marijuana per week for distribution in the Chicago area. “This is just very shocking to me,†wide receiver Roy Williams told Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune. The two played together for three seasons in Dallas before they both joined the Bears in free agency. “And I'm kind of pissed off at him, too, because it's a really selfish act,†Williams added. “He has let us down in the wide receiver group, in which we were so close.
