There has been some internal discussion at Winter Park about the Vikings making the move to a 3-4 defense in 2012, according to reports. Whether it actually happens prior to next season is another matter entirely, and it would take their best defender (DE Jared Allen) out of his natural position. What this chatter does say, however, is that a change at defensive coordinator is likely. Fred Pagac, a Brad Childress holdover, could be let go, making the way for Vikings LB coach Mike Singletary or someone like former Jaguars head coach (and ex-Vikings LB) Jack Del Rio to run the defense. When the Packers switched it put Kampman out of position and he wound up getting hurt. Be careful what you wish for.
Way too much is made out of 3-4 vs 4-3. Some people don't realize how many different schemes there are for each alignment and assume that 4-3 = Cover 2. Absolutely no reason to consider switching to a 3-4 base while Jared Allen is on the team. Doesn't matter what the front 4 is doing when for the last several weeks, we haven't had a defensive back that would be starting on any other NFL team.
they dont have the front 7 to do it. they are aging too fast for a long term solution. EJ Henderson, Kevin Williams, Jarred Allen, and Chad Greenway will need to be replaced very soon, not to mention all the players who probably wont fit. I would stay 4-3 then do a massive overhaul of the secondary.
haha. i can't believe you're even still thinking about what the 3-4 did to kampman. he's a distant memory. obviously, the changes your team made around that time was the best thing to happen to your team in years.
