Will This Site Be The First To Parody Profootballtalk.com?

Has anyone noticed how lame the PFT blog has become since being assimilated by NBC? Not that the blog-by-a-dropout-lawyer was ever the cutting edge of football insight. It is basically just a rumormill - and who wouldn't love a soapbox to spread unsubstantiated gossip from ' unnamed sources'. Anyone who attempts to post criticism there will soon realize how quickly any even vaguely critical posts are deleted. I have often wondered if the blog owner's teenage son is the censor of that site. Ha! I would love it if this site would run a daily parody thread of that site. Pompous opinion is always a great source of humor.

Naww, no run-in. Sure, some of my comments get deleted there, but that is a general complaint by many posters. It isn't just a monitored site; it is a censored site that removes any/most criticism of the site's opinions. PFT developed an early following by criticizing other sites like ESPN for its reporting errors, yet PFT spreads many inaccuracies by blurring the line between facts and rumors. I just posted this topic to see if others get annoyed by the pompous attitude over there. :icon_rolleyes:

I have been googling around to see how many disgruntled football fans are gagging on Profootballtalk.com. There are isolated posts on 'Mike Florio is an idiot' or "PFT is stupid', but no site that takes exception to NBC's whole effort to buy into football fandom with marginal talent. Take the whole ' Football Night in America' schtick. They have such emminent talking heads like Bob Costas and Dan Patrick who never earned their chops in football. Then there is the #1 voted Dirtiest Player in the NFL Rodney Harrison pontificating about dirty play by other players. Oh, and Mr. Elephant Ears Tony Dungy moralizing over any aspect of the NFL that he laments. Finally, the biggest airbag of them all - Peter King - who doesn't even allow comments by readers to his absurd MMQB column on SI.com. Really, how egotistical can ' Ten Thing I Think' ever get. Oh, unless it is the details of his travel experiences. But I digress. Attaching the egomanical rantings of Mike Florio to NBC's effort to copy ESPN's Monday Night Football formula is just over the top. OK, I'm done for now. Feel free to blast me or THEM. :icon_twisted:

Personally I hate Peter King more than I could ever hate Mike Florio. King is a pompous butthole who feels that he can exaggerate and out right lie about news items because he is who he is...In the last year I can't even count the number of times he's apologized "after" his lying sessions where he's said he's quoting a specific person.

I actually like a decent amount of what NBC does with the Sunday night show. It's different than what the other networks do, which is complete bullcrap most of the time. I do have a problem with giving Costas crap because he didn't "earn his chops" in football. The concept of paying dues is nonsense, he's good at the job and shouldn't be criticized because he didn't start out reporting on high school sports at some crapty station or newspaper.

For example, I just graduated with a print journalism degree last weekend. Now I love the heck out of sports, particularly football, and my dream job would be as an NFL beat writer/reporter. But I've never touched sports journalism professionally because it boxes you in and sports writers who have done nothing else can develop some very narrow views. My nightmare would be getting stuck covering HS football for a few decades, so I've stayed on the news side and reserved my dreams for the long-term. So from my journalistic perspective, you're going to get the best people with strong media values not by having them "earn their chops" at crapty sports publications, but by repurposing people who care about sports personally and have been trained on the news side of journalism.

Clearly you have your own bias based upon your own particular career choices. My comments are directed at the shameless self-promotion of NBC Sports that does very little original reporting, and instead uses talking heads to repeat what has already been widely reported elsewhere. By the time NBC gets around to reviewing highlights and topics of the day on its Football Night in America, most of the public has already seen and heard everything ad nauseaum on ESPN, NFLN, or CBS and FOX postgame shows. The only aspect of that FNIA production that isn't overcooked is the actual game itself.

I've been a Mike Florio fan since his start. He is not a lawyer drop out. He gave up his law practice to pursue another dream. I remember his sites video spots being done in his basement. And I have also been answering the same questions about his web site year after year, after year, as I am older than most posters on this board. In the beginning Mike had more lawyer access to NFL players going bad in getting police and court reports. Nothing wrong with that. Mike grew into a respectable insider in my opinion. Hence he got picked up by NBC and started to make the big $$. Love him or hate him, he done good for himself, and all by himself.
