49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said he thinks of QB Alex Smith, who’s a free agent, as the team’s long-term starter. He also continued to push him for the Pro Bowl, along with Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees. “Some people are concerned with statistics, how many passing yards you have, but people who understand football know there’s more to the job,†Harbaugh said. Harbaugh trumpeted Smith’s “uncanny†ability to not give up sack/fumbles, such as the one Ben Roethlisberger did Monday night that led to the 49ers’ final touchdown. Smith has lost only two fumbles all season (the last being at Detroit on Oct. 16) and five interceptions. “He’s been outstanding in that regard,†Harbaugh said.

Come on, don't be a hater...it took him 7 years to be a decent starter. Give him 28 more years and he'll be ready to win the Super Bowl :icon_cheesygrin:

I have been pulling for Alex Smith for the past 7 years but let's see what he does in the playoffs before they give him a long term contract

Agreed. Let's just wait and see how we do in the Divisional Round.....that's based on
staying the # 2 seed and getting a 1st round bye. Here's hoping we still advance to
the NFCCG and face off against GB!!:icon_cheesygrin:
