Steelers WR Hines Ward Says He'll Play In 2012 In Pittsburgh Or Elsewhere

Hines Ward has no plans to retire after this season and said if he does not play for the Steelers in 2012 it will not be his choice. Ward has no special plans to take a moment to relish what could be his final game Saturday at Heinz Field in a dazzling, record-setting 14-year career. "I have two years left on my contract," Ward said, counting this one. "I'm not even thinking that this is my last one. If the organization decides to, I have no control over that. But, for me, I'm not even thinking this is my last game ever [at Heinz Field]. I feel fine. I feel like I can play another year or two if I want to." The actions of the Steelers coaching staff over the past five games make it look as if they are phasing out the most prolific and decorated receiver in franchise history. Ward lost his 13-year starting job Nov. 13 in Cincinnati when he was demoted to No. 4 or No. 5 receiver, returned to start and play significantly more the next two games, then was buried again on the depth chart the past two games.

first off, hines was fun to watch for many years. no receiver would out-work him or out-hustle him. he could be an asset to many teams as a quasi-player/coach for a young receiving corps.

having said that, i really hope this isn't a situation where hines is going to have trouble letting go of the game and will eventually embarass himself.

if he still has the skills to be a legit #4 or #5 somewhere, he would be a good signing, especially for a team with young receivers who need some teaching.

I wouldn't mind him staying with the Steelers...obviously. But it would have to be as a 4 or 5 and the problem there is that your 4 or 5 WR plays special teams and Ward isn't playing special teams...

Wouldnt mind it if we cant keep L- Rob. If we do however, doesnt really have a place since he doesnt play ST's in any capacity.

Maybe if he still has enough passing skills to be an emergency QB

I think Pittsburgh will hold on to him through training camp unless he has a large roster bonus or something in his contract...
