For those calling for veteran QB Jake Delhomme, not rookie T.J. Yates, to guide the Texans in their first-ever postseason, it isn't going to happen. Head coach Gary Kubiak maintains that Yates' struggles — he has three turnovers, compared to no TDs the past two weeks — are not all on him. Yates' protection hasn't been great, and he has sorely missed WR Andre Johnson, two problems Kubiak expects to be resolved in time for the postseason. A source notes that Kubiak, who has three Super Bowl rings — all as a QB coach — knows the QB position well enough that he should be trusted if he thinks Yates gives Houston the best shot in the playoffs. The source said Delhomme has looked sharp throwing the football in practice, but the playbook would have to be reduced if he took over. Source: Pro Football Weekly
Kubiak is a horrible playcaller and game manager. He should be focusing on improving his impact to the team.
when did schaub get completely ruled out for the playoffs? i thought there was still a chance he was coming back?
yep, you're right, i didn't think he was on IR but i just checked and he is. I've been thinking all along they were still hoping he would be back in January. well, they're screwed to get very far in January then. Their first game will be against someone like the Bengals (the last wild card), so they would have a shot in their first game but then they would be traveling to Baltimore or Pittsburgh for their 2nd game and they will be destroyed, especially with the way they're currently playing.
let them get their feet wet in the playoffs and build on it for next year. I know they have been saying wait until next year but I think that time is finally here. Need to get another stud receiver and tight end and then watch out for next year.
well, their division may be available for the taking for the foreseeable future. jacksonville isn't winning anytime soon. we're not sure if peyton will ever play again. and the titans future seems to be up in the air, so who's to say the texans can't win this division for the next few years with the core they have in place?
exactly. Not impressed with the Jags. Should be a better team with the run but they are vertically challenged. Maybe Blaine will work out. Getting all his suckiness out early. Hope so or they are not going anywhere for a long time. Titans are an enigma. Got most of the parts there on paper to succeed but always comes up in the 7-9 win range. Not good enough to do much if anything in the playoffs but not sucky enough to have higher draft picks. If all you can get is middle round picks then you will have middle round talent. Colts can really go either way. Be good for a very few more years or scrap everything and rebuild the whole team. Got to destroy the defense either way. That should be a given. Get some bottom heavy guys there and some thumpers in the linebacker position. But that will take at least a couple of years to accomplish. So that leaves the Texans. They have most of the pieces in place to be good if not great for quite some time. I think schaub is a decent qb. Don't really need a stud at qb for the offense they run. But he isn't a scrub either. He is capable of winning games for them. Good receiver and tight end. Need one more big fast receiver to help with the blocking and getting downfield. And another redzone threat as well. Defense is very young and fast. Should have about 5 to 6 more years left in them before the contracts tear the defense apart. So there is no reason, outside of catastrophic injury, to not believe this team can compete in the AFC. This postseason will do them a lot of good experience wise and who knows, crap happens in the playoffs.
