After spending two seasons in Mike Martz' offense, quarterback Jay Cutler was more than ready to move on. A source told the Chicago Tribune that Cutler visited Halas Hall on Tuesday and shared with coach Lovie Smith his desire for a change, a meeting that occurred before Smith huddled with his offensive coordinator. Martz and the Bears parted ways Tuesday. Smith released a statement, saying "we both felt it was best to move in different directions." Martz told the newspaper Wednesday that it was a mutual decision by he and the team to not to return for a third season as offensive coordinator. "It's unfortunate things happened the way they did this year," Martz told the Tribune. "We were rolling there when Cutler got hurt. He was really doing well, and the entire team was." Source: NFL.com
I'm sure Cutler would like that but the major reason he was only sacked a little over 20 times as opposed to the usual 50+ & had only single digit INTs was they went with blocking TEs - Davis/Spaeth, to shore up that sorry excuse for an OL. Olsen was nice for the passing game but a blocking liability. I'm actually gonna miss Martz. Sure the magic was gone along with him not having the talent but he was a ton smarter than anything we'd seen for years.
