MIAMI (AP)—Carlos Zambrano will get a much-needed fresh start with the Miami Marlins.

The Chicago Cubs traded their former ace Wednesday for Marlins right-hander Chris Volstad, pending physicals and approval by Major League Baseball, a person familiar with the negotiations said. The person confirmed the deal to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the teams hadn’t announced a deal. [More]

Marlins are getting robbed. Volstad is a good young pitcher. Zambrano is older, maybe marginally better, and he's a terrible dugout presence. Overall bad call for the Marlins

Any guesses on how long it will take before Zambrano and Ozzie Guillen tangle to turn the dugout into UFC 150?

"Cubs president Theo Epstein bluntly said overall, Cubs players told him Zambrano no longer could gain their trust as a teammate, leaving him with little choice but to eat over $15 million of his $18 million 2011 salary in a deal for starter Chris Volstad.

"Every player I talked to articulated to me that Carlos really violated their trust," Epstein said."

& somehow the Marlins think Ozzie can keep this goof in line?

One of the stranger trades you'll ever see...

Unless Zambrano truly is mentally ill and thinks/feels on another planetary dimension, him hearing that all of his teammates don't trust him and probably didn't want him on the team had to have hurt. $91 million can certainly ease a few bruises, but it's just not natural to know you're distrusted/unwanted and think the world is a beautiful place. Maybe he'll learn something from this and be the model teammate in Miami. Nah...he's a heckstick and always will be.

The Marlins gave up a scrub for a headcase that is being paid by his old team, if the Marlins cut him, they owe him almost nothing, but the Cubs still owe him a lot. The memo of the Marlins' FO is to take chances on guys who had good careers but have fallen off. Though this is an extreme to that, I get why they did this. Either way I am happy to rid of that tall talentless loser, no matter what.
