The Chicago Bears have promoted offensive line coach Mike Tice to offensive coordinator, Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports. Though Tice has head coaching experience in the NFL, he has never been a coordinator. An opportunity to coordinate the Tennessee Titans was blocked by the Bears last offseason. To account for a lack of experience at this position, Glazer adds that Tice will manage the running game and will be paired with a passing game coordinator, a situation occurred with the Arizona Cardinals, who had Russ Grimm coordinate the running game and Matt Miller run the passing game. Wonder if he gets another head coaching job if the Bears offense improves next season. I thought he did an okay job with the Vikings, considering when he was there, the owner was trying to keep costs down and didn't give him much to work with, it was the off the field stuff that killed him.
I think it's a good hire. And I heard him on ESPN radio already basically telling ownership to get him a real #1 reciever.
Me neither, Ward... But this half butt solution fits perfectly with the situation. The Bears are looking for a new GM who they're going to saddle with a middle-of-the-road HC who's already whiffed twice picking OCs. So they're now promoting an ex middle-of-the-road HC who's shown to be a decent OL coach that's done an admirable job with what he was given, to now be an OC which he doesn't have the resume for. Yep, 'half assed' just about sums it up...:icon_rolleyes:
