Lee Evans sat on a chair facing his locker under Gillette Stadium, alternating between fingering a piece of black athletic tape and dabbing at his eyes with a towel. Then as the number of reporters waiting to interview him swelled, the wide receiver slowly stood up from the chair, turned around, and unhesitatingly shouldered the blame for not holding on to what appeared to be the game-winning touchdown pass with 22 seconds left in the Ravens' 23-20 loss to the New England Patriots in Sunday's AFC title game. "There's really not a whole lot to say about it," Evans said. "It is what you saw. It was an opportunity for us to go to the Super Bowl, and I let it go. Honestly, the most disappointing part of all this is that I feel personally that I let everybody down. This is the greatest team that I've been on, and I feel like I let everybody down. Yeah, it's on my shoulders. I think (linebacker) Ray (Lewis) gave a good message coming in here. It's hard to sit here and accept how and why things happened, but it's the reality of it. It's as tough as it gets." Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch
I almost had a heart attack when I saw that throw and the ball in his arms. I couldn't believe it when I saw it hit the ground. Honestly, I think he's lucky Cundiff hecked up. I don't think most people will remember Evens' drop, they'll remember Cundiff's missed kick. Kinda like when the Cubs were in the NL Championship. No one remembers Alex Gonzalez making an error to keep the inning going, they just remember Bartman reaching over the bleachers.
I still think they should have reviewed it just to take another look at it. But it does look like a incomplete pbutt. Oh well bye bye Evans.
Unlike the 49ers, the Ravens have legit beef over a call. It was still an incomplete pass but I thought it was worthy of another look at the least.
