Roger Goodell Says NFL 'Considering Eliminating' Pro Bowl

Last Sunday's Pro Bowl was a sloppily-played joke of a game that was ripped by fans and the media. Aaron Rodgers came out and said some of his NFC teammates should be "embarrassed" by the way they played. LeSean McCoy told us that he was "one of those guys" who didn't try. Which may explain Roger Goodell said on Sunday morning that the NFL is "considering eliminating" the Pro Bowl. "I really didn't think that was the kind of football that we want to be demonstrating for our fans," Goodell said on Mike and Mike Sunday morning. "And you heard it from the fans. The fans were actively booing in the stands. They didn't like what they were seeing." At the very least, Goodell said, something's going to change or the game will go away. "We're either going to have to improve the quality of what we're doing in the Pro Bowl or consider other changes or even considering eliminating the game if that's the kind of quality game we're going to provide," Goodell said. "I know players love to be in Hawaii but we have to start with the quality of what we're doing. If the fans are responding negatively to what we're doing, we better listen. And that was my message."

it would actually probably be o.k. with nfl fans if they eliminate the game itself and just do the 'skills' contests ............. the players just want to be recognized and go to hawaii and the 'skills' contests would be just as competitive (if not more) than a game.

Why don't you listen to everything else that the fans are complaining about, except the one game that doesn't matter is the one that you're wanting to make changes to?

Pretty sad that it takes a stadium full of booing fans to get this guy to realize something.

I'd be 100% happy if they got rid of it and focused on the skills comp. That's always been my favorite part of pro bowl week anyways.

I can't remember the last time I looked forward to seeing this abomination of a game. Maybe when I was a kid?

Yeah I enjoy it too ward. I feel like there's so much more that he could be focusing on besides a game that doesn't matter. It's for fun, and the players have fun. The fans that pay to go over there to watch it know that it's not going to be competitive in any regard.. So why get upset over it? There's usually a couple of players that ball hard in the game and actually try per year.. them players are usually the MVP's of the game.

I don't think anyone is going to the game either fan/player/other thinking that this is anything more than an exhibition for fun...lol.

Fans complaining about it...just don't watch it. Who cares...really...

First change will be fining the crap out of the players, if they didn't step up in the slow bowl

I honestly hate this idea. Revamp it, figure out how to make it interesting and go from there. Start with it being back AFTER the Super Bowl, add a substantial monetary reward and make it mean something. If you're voted in you get 50k in the pocket and if you are on the winning team you land 100k, Pro Bowl MVP takes home a cool million. Tell me they won't bust their asses for that? Even if the Super Bowl players decide not to partake, heck em, they lose the money. Give them incentives instead of it not really meaning much. And freaking move it to the main land. Step 1 right there. But take care of the fans.

I actually like it being the week before the Super Bowl. I gave even less of a crap about it when it was after it.

i like it after the game and i think a free trip to Hawaii is more enticing for the players to participate. i hate it the week before...

Put it after the Super Bowl, step up the incentive. Winning team gets 75K, losers 0. Bring back the skills competitions and actually have them broadcast (ESPN or whoever is airing the Pro Bowl), bring back the old-timers/legends game, make it fun.

Back in the day when I was watching the pro Noel the players cared and played played defense. Now it is watered down players not wanting to tackle and not trying to get hurt.
