The Dallas Cowboys' coaching staff and front office have said all the right things publicly in response to defensive end Jason Hatcher's contention that the team lacks leadership. Coach Jason Garrett, owner Jerry Jones and vice president Stephen Jones said the Cowboys have plenty of leaders, pointing to quarterback Tony Romo, tight end Jason Witten, linebacker DeMarcus Ware and nose tackle Jay Ratliff. But some in the organization said they are glad Hatcher made the claim because it's true. One source said the Cowboys are fair game for criticism on all levels because they come up short late in games, late in seasons and overall. "We need to get our stuff together," the source said. "Everyone is entitled to their opinions. We haven't gotten it right. Until we get it right, I have no problem with the criticism." Stephen Jones sided with Hatcher at least in saying that the Cowboys don't have a vocal, emotional leader who will get in teammates' faces. "We got good, solid, character lead-by-example guys," Jones said. "Things we don't have and they don't grow on trees is a Michael Irvin or a Ray Lewis who is not only a lead-by-example, who not only is a great player but one who will get in your face." File this under no crap, really This plus is its out with the old in with the new and thats started already, and a huge chunk of it is going to be done with this offseason with something like 19 FA's A concern of mine? Not really as much as you would think. The team is rebuilding in transit, and we've gotten a couple guys the last couple of drafts in Lee and Smith who have those capablilities
it's surprising to me how many teams seem to ignore the mental make-up of their players. Do we really think the packers of the 60's were that much more talented than everyone else? no, they had a mental edge because of their players and coach. do we really think the steelers of the 70's were that much more talented than the rest of the league? no, they had great leaders like lambert and greene and bradshaw and harris that were LEADERS in addition to being physically gifted. i understand it's hard to measure someone's mental/emotional make-up prior to drafting them but it seems like a lot of teams need to work at it a little harder.
The Cowboys problem is the same of WWE problem, They have a person in overall charge who has lost there touch and they don't know how to let others make things better. Honestly Jerry Jones and Vince McMahon believe their way is right but it isn't
I agree Lee looks like a leader in the making. And Smith hopefully will show that more this season. We really need someone who will make all the players accountable for when they screw up and get them pumped. Its to bad Ware cant be that guy on defense cause he seems to not have that instinct. Nor any of the other guys on offense like Whitten or Romo. They need someone who scares the crap out of them if they screw up.
We need another attitude like MI 88 Dude brought it and let you know when you didn't Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
