Stanford tight end Coby Fleener looks as if he could be a 49er kind of a guy according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. Fleener is a tight end ... and 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh features the position prominently in his offense. Fleener is projected as a late first-round selection ... and the 49ers have the No. 30 pick. Fleener played for Harbaugh for three years in college ... and the coach has a soft spot for his former players, four of whom filled out the 49ers' eight-man practice squad last year. "Coby Fleener won us games," Harbaugh said. "I probably tend to be - I mean, I love these guys. Maybe I am the over-evaluator. My point was it probably takes us some checks and balances with those guys that I know so well." Source: The Redzone
Well they need a redzone target and he is it. They have walker as davis's back up, but walker can play a lot of positions. I mean you come out in goal line with davis, fleener and walker and its like what are they going to do??? They can still pass or run very effectively in that formation.
Fleeners an everything target. Redzone for his size, sure, but he was Stanfords biggest deep threat and a pretty damn effective one at that. When was the last time you heard of a major conference TE averaging 20 YPC?
Wow pretty amazing. If the wrs could stay healthy i honestly don't think we need a huge amount of wr help anyway, so you could take fleener at 30 instead of one of the "top" wrs. Morgans never had injury problems and he'll be resigned. I hope they bring Ginn back as a specialist, but even on offense you put him in the slot you could run some deep routes. Plus there should be some quality later in the draft.
