The Philadelphia Eagles announced that they have placed the franchise tag on wide receiver DeSean Jackson. The franchise tender for a wide receiver in 2012 is projected to be worth $9.443 million in guaranteed base salary once the contract is signed. The Eagles had until 4pm ET on Monday, March 5 to use the tag, which allows the two sides to continue negotiations until July 15. "We want DeSean to be an Eagle for the long haul and this is a step in the right direction to accomplish that," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said. "We will continue our efforts on getting a long-term deal done with him."

Not sure I'd like this as an Eagles fan. That's a lot of dough to pay for a guy for one season if he decides to be a snitch...

I don't think it's horrible if they can negotiate a "better" deal for him.

I suppose but this much for Jax is insane. Especially if he quits on the team at the end again.

It's okay. It's basically the kiss of death. Before they didn't sign Trotter they said that he was their guy in the middle for the future then let him sign in Washington. They said that Dawkins was someone they wanted to retire an Eagle and then he signed in Denver and Andy Reid said that Donovan McNabb was his starter in 2010 and he got traded. Just sayin. Read between the lines.

yep, i think this is looking like they're either going to try and trade him or they just want another year out of him before letting him walk.
