The Browns have franchised kicker Phil Dawson, guaranteeing him a one-year salary of roughly $3.8 million. Dawson made 24 of 29 field goals in 2011 including 7 of 8 from 50-plus yards.

isnt it a tad bit depressing when your franchise player, MVP and the only one worth tagging is a kicker?

    They resigned that player already.

Not really. Kicker is a good player to tag because he's dirt cheap. It's a smart move in some cases.

yes, it seems like a lot of teams will do this if they feel like they need that kicker for 1 more year and don't really want to tag anyone else.

On a related note, though, NFL teams are not required to tag anyone.
