The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed the "First Round" restricted free agent tender on defensive end Michael Bennett, Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com reports. Restricted free agent tenders are scheduled to increase at the same rate of the salary cap, with a minimum increase of five percent annually. Since the salary cap is not expected to increase by five percent, we know that the tender will be worth $2.742 million in non-guaranteed base salary, a five percent increase over last year's $2.611 million tender. Despite the large draft investments the Buccaneers have made along the defensive line the last two seasons, Bennett started 10 games in 2011, led the team with 12 tackles for loss and was second among the team's defensive linemen with four sacks. maybe i don't understand this, but i thought teams would only place the tender on a player who was realistically worth a 1st round pick. this seems like a waste of time for this guy.
it makes sure they retain him thats all, they obviously just want him back for a year. if someone wants to sign him they can but the bucs make out huge in getting a first round pick for compensation of losing an average player
