The Pittsburgh Steelers have tendered an offer to restricted free-agent wide receiver Mike Wallace. The Steelers did not release what the players were tendered, though general manager Kevin Colbert said recently the team would do what it could to keep Wallace. The Steelers have the right to match any offer made to Wallace or would receive compensation if he signs with another team, likely a first-round draft pick. Wallace made the Pro Bowl this season after leading the Steelers with 72 receptions for 1,193 yards and eight touchdowns in 2011. He's one of the NFL's top deep threats with an average of 18.7 yards per reception. Source: Associated Press
I think it's a safe bet it was a first rounder...lol. Going to be interested what team comes to the table. With where the Steelers are in the cap right now, if a team wants to part with their first round pick, they can easily take Wallace from the Steelers...
do the niners have the cap room also because he may insist on getting a long-term deal wherever he goes?
If the Niners wanted him and they are a WR away from something special, they could easily do a contract that would screw the Steelers at this point...
I'm good with that...lol. As long as it takes them out of the Mike Wallace Game. I think I feared them and the Pats the most as threats to come in and take Wallace.
I can't think of a single reason why the Pats shouldn't pull the trigger on Wallace, he'd be sick there
I'd be pretty surprised if McD has much of a final say in personnel moves there, and Welker won't be around forever. Wallace would give them a top notch deep threat for the foreseeable future.
wouldnt mind the browns or rams taking a long hard look at signing him, but the pats, bengals, ravens, 49ers while i would be THAT upset it would be a hard thing to watch, i like the idea of having two firsts though. steelers are 10.5 mil under, they can probably match a deal unless its super super front loaded
Even of it was super front loaded, the steelers could find room if they really want to keep him. They have Harrison's contract they could redo, they could dump Hampton, they could dump Mendenhall...all of which I would do to keep Brown and Wallace. As for them being $10.5 under...that doesn't include the tenders taken out does it? I was thinking it was less because of those.
