A person familiar with the situation said Thursday three current assistants are strong candidates to take over in Sean Payton’s absence: Offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr., defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and offensive line coach Aaron Kromer. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced its plans. The Saints also must orchestrate a front office and coaching staff shuffle to account for partial-season suspensions of general manager Mickey Loomis (eight games) and assistant head coach Joe Vitt (six games), who also coaches linebackers. The person said it is too early to tell who will be named interim head coach or how reassignments across both the coaching staff and front office will shake out. The person added that Payton, who has now been with the club more than six years, and Loomis, who arrived 12 years ago, still had the backing of team owner Tom Benson. Source: Associated Press
hope they chose one guy and not change after Vitt comes back. Pete makes more sense than Spags. Let him concentrate on defense.
I like how some people want to refer to the aints and paper bags....sorry guys but this orginization isn't even close to those of the past. I can't wait for the season to start and hear everyone snitch and cry about us running up the score.
Lol. If he gets that gig and fails, he's pretty much done as a head coach in the NFL...for a long while.
can't see the Benson doing that. It will be Pete running the offense and making the decisions. He did pretty well when Payton was out last year. No worries. And after reports came out saying that not many players will be suspended I am not that worried about this season. Except for the signing Brees part. And Carolina will be the Panties again. As always. They are like the red headed stepchild of the NFC South.
